Occupational Therapy

Pediatric Occupational Therapy in Tampa & Brandon

Every child deserves the opportunity to confidently participate in the activities that matter most. Our pediatric occupational therapists help children build the skills for everyday life through connection and play — supporting play, learning, independence, emotional regulation, and meaningful participation through individualized, relationship-based therapy.

Child practicing fine motor and handwriting skills

Occupational therapy is about so much more than fine motor skills. It’s about helping children participate more fully in everyday activities that matter most — whether that’s getting dressed independently, enjoying mealtimes, succeeding in school, making friends, or feeling confident in their own abilities. Every child develops differently, so our occupational therapists meet your child exactly where they are, build on their unique strengths, and create meaningful, play-based experiences that support participation and development.

Frequently Asked Questions

When might my child benefit from occupational therapy?

Children may benefit from OT when differences in sensory processing, regulation, fine motor skills, coordination, feeding, handwriting, play, or self-care are making everyday activities more difficult. An occupational therapy evaluation can help identify your child’s individual strengths and areas where additional support may be helpful.

What is sensory processing?

Sensory processing refers to how the nervous system receives, organizes, and responds to sensory information from the body and environment. Differences in sensory processing can affect regulation, attention, movement, play, self-care, and participation in everyday activities. OT can help children and families better understand and support their individual sensory needs.

What’s the difference between OT and PT?

Occupational therapy focuses on helping children participate in everyday activities such as play, self-care, feeding, handwriting, fine motor tasks, and school routines, while physical therapy focuses more specifically on movement, mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and gross motor development. Some children may benefit from both OT and PT depending on their individual needs.

Do you help with handwriting and feeding?

Yes. Our occupational therapists can support handwriting and fine motor development, including use of the Handwriting Without Tears® approach, as well as feeding concerns such as food selectivity and participation in mealtime routines. Services are individualized based on each child’s needs.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. Skill Point Therapy works with several insurance plans, including many Florida Medicaid plans and TRICARE. We also offer private-pay options and are a direct-pay provider for Step Up For Students/FES-UA. Insurance participation and coverage can vary, so our team can help you determine your options before getting started.
